Sampling for a remodel
We sample only the materials your project will disturb. If the plan grows to take in another room, that room gets its own samples before the work reaches it.

You can’t spot asbestos by eye, so we arrange lab testing before anyone writes a removal plan or picks up a scraper.
We set up sampling for houses, townhomes and rentals in Maple Grove, Osseo and Corcoran, and the results show which materials hold asbestos and which don’t.

MPCA requires an MDH-certified inspector to look over every structure before it is demolished. We line up that inspection so the report is ready for your demolition paperwork.
Your samples are analyzed by an NVLAP- or AIHA-accredited lab. A reading above 1 percent makes a material asbestos-containing under state law, and only those materials go on our removal list.
Newer Maple Grove homes may not need a survey at all. For a building put up after October 1988, the architect or contractor can state in writing that no asbestos was used in construction, and that statement can replace the inspection. Just over half of the city’s homes date from 1990 or later.
No Minnesota rule makes you order a survey before remodeling the house you live in. The rules below cover employers and public and commercial buildings, and a lab test is still the only way to know what a material holds.
An employer has to survey before its crew remodels or demolishes where asbestos may be present. If you hire a remodeler with a crew, that survey comes before their work starts.
A school, store or office needs an inspection before it is renovated or demolished, and that holds whether the building is fifty years old or five.
Turning up suspect material halfway through a remodel doesn’t make it an MDH emergency, so the advance notice still has to go in before removal.
